WBAL-TV 11—The Maryland Food Bank kicks off its Harvest for the Hungry Spring Forward Food Drive this weekend.
One lucky Marylander got to shop for free at a Safeway in Towson early Thursday morning in honor of the initiative.
Stephanie Custis, 31, got sent on a two-minute shopping spree, where she was able to grab as many groceries as possible for free. She walked away with a full cart worth more than $450, including baby items she plans to share with her sister.
Safeway stores sponsors the contest every year as a way to kick off the Harvest for the Hungry annual spring food drive. From Saturday through March 9, customers at all Maryland Safeway stores can buy $10 grocery bags that are pre-filled with essentials like rice, tuna and cereal.
