On July 17, The Maryland Food Bank awarded nearly $630,000 in Hunger Hotspot Grants to 15 organizations statewide that have the potential to make an even greater difference in their neighborhoods.
College students are an often overlooked, but surprisingly large demographic of the people who experience food insecurity in Maryland. Recent studies explore some of the reasons hunger touches more than 116,000 higher education students statewide, and just how devastating its effect can be.
As the state’s leading hunger resource, it is our responsibility to balance the immediate issues that hunger presents to individuals, with the need to keep an eye on trends in the state overall, so we continue to be the resource our neighbors need us to be.
