The Maryland Food Bank is a nonprofit hunger-relief organization dedicated to feeding people, strengthening communities, and ending hunger for more Marylanders by partnering with local organizations from the western mountains to the Eastern Shore. The food bank’s statewide network of food assistance brings enough resources together to provide nearly 119,000 meals every day (more than 43.5 million meals annually) to hungry children, seniors, veterans, and hard-working families, meeting the immediate needs of hungry Marylanders while simultaneously working to create pathways out of hunger.

Record Number of Volunteers Pack Holiday Meal Boxes During Pack to Give Back 2025

On Friday, October 24, a record 400 volunteers from nearly 25 companies gathered at the Maryland Food Bank to pack Holiday Meal Kits for families across the state. The food bank’s annual Pack to Give Back event brings together corporate and community partners to help ensure more Maryland families can share a nourishing holiday meal together.

A government shutdown impacts federal programs, federal employees and people who work for federal contractors in different ways and at varying times. Federal employees may be furloughed or asked to work without pay, federal contractors may miss paychecks, and benefits programs may see disruptions due to a lack of funding or staffing.
