Giant Food is deepening its commitment to fighting childhood hunger with a generous $300,000 donation to the Maryland Food Bank’s (MFB) School Pantry Program. The announcement was made today at an MFB media event, highlighting the importance of school-based food access for Maryland families facing food insecurity.

With this funding, MFB will continue providing nutritious food to students and families at 180 school pantry sites, including Belmont Elementary who joined the event today in celebration. In FY24 alone, MFB’s School Pantry Program distributed 2.4 million meals, ensuring children have reliable access to the nourishment they need to thrive.

Giant Food, which has contributed $7.4 million to the Maryland Food Bank since 1993, remains a key corporate ally in the fight against food insecurity. Dyani Hanrahan, Vice President of Marketing at Giant Food and MFB Board Member, shared her personal connection to the cause, recalling how her mother, a teacher, once ran a food pantry out of her classroom.

The Maryland Food Bank continues to expand its reach through strong community and corporate partnerships, ensuring that no child in Maryland goes hungry.
