Maryland Food Bank Appoints Meg Kimmel President and CEO

BALTIMORE (July 7, 2025) – The Maryland Food Bank (MFB) announced today the appointment of Meg Kimmel as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. Kimmel, who served as the food bank’s Chief Operating Officer since 2023, has extensive experience in food banking and nonprofit leadership across multiple functional areas including operations, strategy, external affairs, and programs. She has served in a variety of key roles since joining MFB in 2012, including leading the food bank’s response to the surge of need during the COVID-19 pandemic and creating cutting-edge programs that have bolstered the food bank’s capacity to build pathways out of hunger for Marylanders in every community.
Kimmel succeeds Carmen Del Guercio, MFB’s President and CEO since 2016.
Terry Squyres, Chair of the MFB Board from 2023-2025, who led the CEO search process, remarked on Kimmel’s strength and vision as a leader during this critical time for the food bank and the issue of food insecurity in Maryland.
“Not only does Meg know every nuance of the work of food banking, but she also brings inspirational vision to the fight to end hunger in Maryland,” said Squyres. “After a rigorous search process, the Board is excited to take this next step with a leader who has shown creativity, expertise, and deep dedication to serving food-insecure Marylanders.”
The MFB Board of Directors conducted a national search in partnership with Koya Partners, the executive search firm focused on working with mission-driven clients.
The Maryland Food Bank, founded in 1979 as the first food bank on the East Coast, is the state’s largest anti-hunger nonprofit organization. The food bank supplies nutritious food to a statewide network of nearly 800 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and faith-based organizations that serve food-insecure Marylanders. MFB also works to fight hunger at its root causes through workforce development, advocacy, nutrition education, and other innovative programs. In the 2024 fiscal year, the Maryland Food Bank distributed enough food for over 43 million meals and served more than 1 million people in every community across the state.
“I am honored to lead the Maryland Food Bank at this important moment. I’m excited to continue the work to feed our neighbors and build stronger communities alongside our incredible teams, our network of food distribution partners, and our many donors, volunteers, and supporters,” said Kimmel. “By working together, we can both feed people who need a meal today and address the barriers that create hunger and hold it in place.”
Before her most recent role as COO, Kimmel served as the food bank’s Chief Strategy Officer, Chief External Affairs Officer, and Vice President of Marketing and Communications. Kimmel earned a B.A. in International Relations and Spanish from Bucknell University.
With Kimmel at the helm, the Maryland Food Bank is poised to deepen its impact to meet the complex challenges of food insecurity in Maryland through continuing programs, campaigns, educational outreach and strong relationships across the network. ![]()
