Volunteers Recognize Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with Service to the Maryland Food Bank

On Monday, January 19, teams of volunteers from three local organizations pitched in to pack nutritious food at the Maryland Food Bank, celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day by giving back.
Volunteers gathered at the food bank’s flagship location in Baltimore County to package 5,520 pounds of brown rice for distribution to neighbors across the state. The brown rice was generously donated by Allegis Group, who also had volunteers out at MFB.
In addition to Allegis Group, volunteers included members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, who were in their third year of volunteering on MLK Jr., Day at the Maryland Food Bank; members from the Maryland Department of Agriculture and Department of Service and Civic Innovation also joined the group of more than 100 volunteers. Special attendees included Maryland Secretary of Agriculture, Kevin M. Atticks, and Secretary of the Maryland Department of General Services, Atif Chaudhry.
“Dr. King inspires us because of his vision for a different future. The Maryland Food Bank is working every day to build a food-secure Maryland. We are grateful to all the volunteers for dedicating their time and passion to help their neighbors,” said Meg Kimmel, President and CEO of the Maryland Food Bank. ![]()
