The Door Receives Outstanding Partner Award (VIDEO)
The Maryland Food Bank works with more than 330 incredible and passionate Network Partners statewide to help expand access to nutritious food while opening pathways out of hunger for more Marylanders.
It’s Hunger Action Month, and at our recent Hunger Action Symposium: Causing Change, we had the opportunity to recognize one partner in each of the five regions we serve (Western, Northern, Baltimore City, Southern, and the Eastern Shore) with “Outstanding Partner” Awards.
In this third of five blog posts, you’ll learn about the great work of The Door Pantry in the Patterson Park community of Baltimore City.
The Door Food Pantry is an MFB Network Partner, serving Patterson Place and surrounding neighborhoods in East Baltimore. The Door has been an MFB Network Partner since 2014, but they have increased their local impact dramatically during the pandemic.
“The Door Food Pantry works diligently to reduce barriers for their neighbors. Time after time, The Door has answered the call when we have needed partners to show up the most,” Devonne Franklin, MFB’s Regional Program Director, Baltimore City.
This partner hosts monthly Pantry on the Go events, twice-weekly food distributions on Tuesday and Thursdays, and offers home delivery. The Door has also developed innovative programs like their “Fill Your Reusable Shopping Bag” day. They are a very interactive partner, regularly supplying MFB with neighbor stories and fulfilling media requests.
“Our sincerest gratitude and appreciation to the Maryland food bank for their continuous resources, their generous grants, their assistance and their support, which allows us to share our services with the community in ways that we were not able to do without this partnership.”
The Door Food Pantry uses their extensive neighborhood partnerships to elevate their community, serving as a resiliency hub for East Baltimore.
“No matter how difficult the struggle becomes, we can count on The Door to meet the challenge with a positive mind and open heart,” Devonne shared.
