Clashing with Hunger: Patuxent Roller Derby Members are Changemakers

In case you missed Patuxent Roller Derby’s recent Saturday morning “Cartoon Clash” bout between the Salty Beaches and Kraken Skulls, the Beaches prevailed, by a score of 217-133.

But the real winners were neighbors in need.

On March 7, at Dundalk’s Skateland Northpoint, the community rallied around the league’s event, purchasing tickets; donating shelf-stable foods; participating in a 50/50 raffle, games, and bake sales; as well as making direct financial contributions to support our efforts to feed hungry Marylanders.

“We just want to help central Maryland. Giving back to an area that supports our inclusive league and letting us use their resources is really important in ensuring that we’re serving the community beyond just our own selves.”

According to Stalker Down, the Cartoon Clash theme came from a team discussion about which non-profit to help. “We saw breakfast items on your high needs list, and our bouts take place on Saturdays at breakfast time, so we thought it was a good collaboration.”end story icon
