Paving Pathways Out of Hunger: The Maryland Women of Asphalt Are Changemakers

Since 2018, the Maryland Women of Asphalt have been helping fight hunger in Maryland by supporting the Donald Bentley Food Pantry, a Maryland Food Bank community partner in north Baltimore.

But after reading an article about how child hunger spikes during the summer months when school lets out, the Women of Asphalt knew that they could help smooth the road to success for kids and quickly leapt into action, creating a highly successful annual fundraising event.

“We created our Christmas in July event to help people in Western Maryland. It was so easy to partner with the Maryland Food Bank, and their support makes it a win-win for everyone involved!”

Changemaker, Maryland Women of Asphalt

And if that weren’t enough, the Women of Asphalt kindly help fill in gaps in our volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Due to the generosity of their employers, each quarter, six women from different parts of the asphalt industry (and the state) come to our headquarters in Halethorpe and enjoy team bonding while performing crucial tasks like sorting and boxing food, breaking down bulk food into manageable portions. end story icon

Changemakers at work! In addition to dedicating time to volunteer as a team in our warehouse, Maryland Women of Asphalt hosts an annual “Christmas in July” event to raise critical funds to help Maryland families during the summer meal gap.
