As the state’s leading hunger resource, it is our responsibility to balance the immediate issues that hunger presents to individuals, with the need to keep an eye on trends in the state overall, so we continue to be the resource our neighbors need us to be.
The Maryland Food Bank (MFB) announced today the appointment of Meg Kimmel as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. Kimmel, who served as the food bank’s Chief Operating Officer since 2023, has extensive experience in food banking and nonprofit leadership across multiple functional areas including operations, strategy, external affairs, and programs.
Innovating ways to help Marylanders make healthier eating choices is something that we consistently and proudly do through the culturally inclusive foods that we source and distribute statewide to our neighbors in need.
The Maryland Food Bank has received a $750,000 grant from Walmart and Feeding America to expand its food rescue operations across the state. The funding will help MFB and its community partners recover more fresh, frozen, and shelf-stable food from local grocers—aiming to provide 13 million meals annually. This grant is part of a larger $15.75 million national effort to strengthen food recovery and reduce waste.
