Farm to Food Bank coordinator Amy Cawley catches readers up on what has been an extremely busy fall season so far on Maryland’s Farms. She has been criss-crossing the state pairing gleaning volunteers with Farm to Food Bank partner farms, appearing on an agriculture podcast and doing everything she can to make sure that hungry Marylanders have year-round access to fresh and nutritious local produce.
Ministerio Puerta de Paz, located in Odenton, Maryland, is one of the many temporary partners that have joined forces with the Maryland Food Bank and stepped up to serve the increased need in their community during COVID-19.
Victory Villa, located in Middle River, is one of the Maryland Food Bank’s statewide partner that was not only able to stay open and keep feeding their hungry neighbors when COVID-19 struck, but actually do more to help some of the more vulnerable members of their community.
Though nothing could have prepared FoodWorks’ new Executive Chef for the changes to institutional learning in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chef Monique “Moe” Jordan has adapted to unprecedented challenges continuing culinary instruction online as the program celebrates ten years of operations.
COVID-19 may be affecting traditional food assistance programs, but it hasn’t changed the passion, dedication, and commitment that the Henderson-Hopkins school is showing it’s community by offering safe drive-through, walk-up, and home delivery food distribution options to their neighbors in need.
