On September 12, we deployed our staff to MFB partner sites from the western mountains to the Eastern Shore to show that we all can do more to help end hunger for more Marylanders as part of our first ever “MFB Day of Service.”
Hunger is a very real issue that real people deal with every day. Despite being one of the wealthiest states in the nation, Marylanders from all walks of life find themselves in need of food assistance from time to time, for a variety of reasons. Hear from two people who have used the food assistance safety net, but for different and personal reasons.
When the federal government shutdown in December, the Maryland Food Bank sprang into action to help feed some of the 172,000 affected federal workers that call our state home through our Pantry on the Go Program.
Although the shutdown may be suspended, Marylanders across the state are still feeling its lasting impact — including hundreds of thousands of seniors, families, and veterans who rely on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
