Now operating in nearly 260 schools statewide, our School Pantry Program provides hungry children with snacks during the school day and staple groceries to bring home to their families for the week.
Lawmakers are working on legislation to continue funding for programs that put food in the stomachs of children across the nation. More than 258,000 Maryland children are food insecure and government-funded programs help put food to the table for them.
Earlier this month, the Maryland Food Bank hosted Pack to Give Back, an annual campaign that mobilizes the local business community to provide holiday meals to families who might otherwise go without. This year, with the help of dozens of organizations like Xerox, the Grainger Foundation, the Baltimore Orioles, and CSX, the Maryland Food Bank is providing holiday meals to 80,000 food-insecure Marylanders. This week, we began distributing these meals — and our mission came to life in the faces and voices of the individuals receiving them.
In celebration of Hunger Action Month, we’re highlighting some very special individuals and organizations who have set the bar high for hunger action with their unwavering commitment to helping Marylanders in need. Each week in September, we plan to spotlight a handful of inspirational figures and explore the collaboration and generosity that moves our mission.
