A Second Chance for FoodWorks Class 26

Our FoodWorks culinary training program not only provides job readiness skills to low-income students, but also supplies food-insecure Marylanders with nutritious meals. The graduates of this program — most of whom have overcome hurdles many of us can’t imagine — get a chance to uplift themselves, their families, and their communities. On Friday, January 26, we bid farewell to the 26th graduating class of FoodWorks in a special ceremony.

Pack to Give Back Local: Through Carmen’s Eyes

Pack to Give Back Local is an annual series of Maryland Food Bank events that bring together community agencies and corporate partners to pack holiday meals in every county the food bank serves, ensuring a joyful holiday season for more than 12,000 Maryland families that might otherwise go without.

Food Lion Feeds Great Pantry Makeover

Food Lion Feeds recently hosted their annual Great Pantry Makeover event—and this year, two Maryland Food Bank partners, Soul Harvest (Baltimore) and Delmarva Evangelistic Church (Salisbury), were two of 60 lucky feeding agencies to win. The grants from Food Lion Feeds will ultimately help build the partners’ pantry’s capacity to store and distribute nutritious food to their respected communities.

A Culinary Journey for FoodWorks Class 25

On Friday, October 20, we gathered to celebrate the 25th graduating class of our FoodWorks culinary program. Throughout their 12-week journey, our 10 graduates received ServSafe certifications and job-readiness training, all while producing nearly 25,000 meals for food-insecure Marylanders. The MFB staff, friends and family members of the graduates, as well as state and community leaders, were in attendance to commemorate the accomplishments of FoodWorks Class 25.

Gleaning Wisdom: Thanks for a Great Season

While I had thought that the previous blog was going to be my last one for this season, so much has happened that I wanted to share it with you. And I also wanted to say thanks to some special people that have helped to make the Farm to Food Bank Program so successful.
