The Food First Grant Program is designed to expand partner capacity, strengthening our network. The grant money will be used for a variety of capacity-building projects aimed at increasing the amount of food partners distribute, expanding their service hours, transporting and handling perishable foods, and providing additional services to help clients address the root causes of hunger.
This year marks more than just celebrating our past accomplishments of service. We want to focus on moving forward and fighting hunger with new approaches that will lead to sustainable change.
Hurricanes Harvey and Irma caused billions of dollars worth of damage to Texas and Florida. And with it, millions of locals were left displaced and without basic necessities.
To help communities devastated by the storms, organizations throughout the nation joined forces to provide volunteers and resources to the affected areas. Thanks to the support of our generous donors, the Maryland Food Bank was among those organizations that was able to act quickly and help those in need.
The Farm to Food Bank Program is an innovative and cooperative effort between farmers, volunteers, and the Maryland Food Bank which helps get nutritious produce into the hands of food-insecure Marylanders. Amy Cawley, who runs the program will blog regularly through the growing season, giving you an insider’s view of how we get fresh produce from farm to food bank.
Every year kids across the state take part in our Kids Helping Kids initiative by pitching in to collect food and funds to help other kids who may be suffering from food insecurity. On Thursday, May 18, we celebrated this year’s top fundraisers.
