Graduates from FoodWorks Class 28 left our 12-week culinary program last Friday with a ServSafe Manager certification, job readiness skills, and a desire to give back despite facing an unimaginable amount of hardships. Here are some of their stories.
At the Maryland Food Bank, we have many programs that provide food to those in need, but our FoodWorks culinary training program is the only one that allows us to work one-on-one with individuals, offering them education and employment opportunities to improve their lives and positively impact their communities. On Friday, April 20, we gathered to wish the 27th graduating class of FoodWorks farewell as they enter careers in the culinary world.
Our FoodWorks culinary training program not only provides job readiness skills to low-income students, but also supplies food-insecure Marylanders with nutritious meals. The graduates of this program — most of whom have overcome hurdles many of us can’t imagine — get a chance to uplift themselves, their families, and their communities. On Friday, January 26, we bid farewell to the 26th graduating class of FoodWorks in a special ceremony.
On Friday, October 20, we gathered to celebrate the 25th graduating class of our FoodWorks culinary program. Throughout their 12-week journey, our 10 graduates received ServSafe certifications and job-readiness training, all while producing nearly 25,000 meals for food-insecure Marylanders. The MFB staff, friends and family members of the graduates, as well as state and community leaders, were in attendance to commemorate the accomplishments of FoodWorks Class 25.
